Faces of High Street: 818 Dental
Visiting the dentist can be intimidating and met with certain anxiety for many of us. We speak to Dr. Lloyd, owner and leading Dentist at 818 Dental, about his dedication to delivering the most painless, up to date treatment during his impressive 20 years of establishment.
As one of High Street’s longest trading stores, 818 Dental opened it’s doors on High Street 20 years ago in 2000. Starting as the sole dentist in a small practice – Dr. Lloyd now has a growing team of dentists and 5 dental hygienists, with his practice spanning six rooms and set to expand further.
Dr. Lloyds’ passion for dentistry began at a very young age. As a boy, he would often join his father at work where he cleaned Dental practices. Dr. Lloyd remembers being fascinated with all the fancy equipment and recalls conversations with staff that sparked his curiosity about the world of dentistry. To this day his interest in high tech gadgets continues, with Lloyd priding himself on ensuring his practice utilises the very latest advances in dentistry.
818 Dental is all about the people first. When speaking to Dr. Lloyd he makes it clear that his primary concern is for his patients and providing them with a high-quality service that is both comfortable and effective. Being in service for over 20 years means that Lloyd has had the pleasure of getting to know many of his patients over several years – seeing many of them grow and mature into adults. Being able to provide continual care to his patients throughout their lives is one of the most rewarding experiences for him.
As a local, Dr. Lloyd is proud to be able to mix work and play in such a thriving community. He often visits cafes such as Bruno + Co and wouldn’t go past Bouzzy for a drink on the weekends, taking in the busy atmosphere. In his spare time he likes to travel, play tennis and golf, and spend time with his family.
Dr Lloyds Top Tips For Keeping Teeth Healthy Between Visits
- Use a Waterpik in place of flossing! A Waterpik works by blasting water between the teeth – this is a more effective and convenient way to floss.
- Be careful about consuming too many acidic foods. There are a lot of foods that should be eaten in moderation because they can lead to erosion of teeth enamel – lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, and certain fruits like mango are a few to watch out for!
- On the opposite side, yes, it is true – Strawberries are a natural teeth whitener.
- Make sure you get your hands on the softest toothbrush you can find and don’t brush too hard as this will rub away the enamel on the teeth – opt for an electric toothbrush such as the Oral B Genius which glows red when you are brushing too hard – GENIUS!
