A good night’s sleep starts with a mattress that suits you. At Latex Mattress Australia on High Street Armadale, a family business combines Australian craftsmanship, natural materials and personal service to help customers find their fit.
“It makes perfect sense for women to be designing mattresses,” says Jessica Wilson. “In most households, women are the ones who notice everything. We are the princess and the pea. If there is a lump or a dip, or a poor night’s sleep, we feel it first.”
The business has been handcrafting latex mattresses in Brisbane since 1955. More than 25 years ago, Trixie Wilson bought the manufacturer, then operating from a tin shed in Archerfield. Where others might have seen an unlikely investment, she saw an opportunity to build something worthwhile.

Today, her daughter Jessica leads the business, continuing her mother’s commitment to quality while bringing the family’s craft to a new audience. The Armadale showroom is its first in Victoria, joining locations in Springwood and Mosman.
Finding the right fit
Mattress shopping can be confusing. With so many options and descriptions of firmness, knowing what will feel comfortable night after night takes more than reading a label.
At Latex Mattress Australia, customers are guided by a Sleep Specialist who helps them explore their preferences and find the comfort and support that suit them. As Jessica explains, a mattress described as “medium” can feel quite different from one person to another.
Each mattress is handcrafted in Brisbane using natural materials, including 100% pure natural latex, and comes with a 21-year guarantee. Mattresses are made to suit the individual sleeper, with custom sizing available for beds and spaces that require something beyond standard dimensions.
“I love what I do, with a passion,” says Jessica. “There is nothing quite like a customer coming back to tell us they are sleeping better than they have in years. My mother built something extraordinary, and it is a privilege to carry it forward.”
A Melbourne home on High Street
Choosing the location for the family’s first Victorian showroom was personal.
“It was always my dream to open on High Street, Armadale,” says Jessica. “I love Melbourne so much, the culture, the food, the way people here appreciate things that are made well.”
Bringing that dream to life involved regular trips between Brisbane and Melbourne, often with her baby accompanying her. A mother of four, Jessica has balanced family life with establishing the showroom and introducing the business to High Street.

The Armadale showroom is led by Showroom Manager Antony, whose warmth and knowledge are central to the experience. Visitors are welcome to explore the range, ask questions and take the time to find what feels right. Private consultations with a Sleep Specialist are also available by appointment.
From its beginnings in a Brisbane tin shed to its home on High Street, the business remains a family undertaking, with care and craftsmanship at its heart.
